Subway’s New Ghost Pepper Bread Raises the Heat of Its Most Iconic Sandwiches

October 17, 2024

Subway is upping its sandwich game by bringing the heat to its culinary creations with Ghost Pepper Bread.

The fast-food chain is introducing its spiciest bread ever, allowing its customers the option to add heat to every sandwich option on the menu. It is also introducing two new sandwiches with a spice profile unlike any other the chain has previously featured.

According to a company press release, Subway’s latest bread offering is a year in the making. Ghost Peppers are one of the world’s hottest chili peppers. However, Subway’s culinary team found a way to balance the heat so it doesn’t overwhelm any of the traditional sandwich ingredients.

Subway’s Ghost Pepper Bread is freshly prepared every day in restaurants nationwide by carefully coating Artisan Italian bread dough in ghost pepper, habanero, and paprika-seasoned panko breadcrumbs. It is then topped with Monterey cheddar cheese and jalapeño slices before being baked.

Two All-New Subway Sandwiches Turn Up the Heat

Ghost Pepper Bread is perfect for spicing up any 6-inch or footlong sandwich. However, Subway fans can turn up the heat even more by trying out two all-new sandwiches that have added a fiery twist to the menu.

First, there’s the Spicy Nacho Steak. This sandwich is a riff on the Spicy Nacho Chicken offering that debuted this summer. Sliced steak is smothered in creamy cheddar cheese sauce, green peppers, red onion, spicy jalapenos, and SubKrunch, Subway’s new crunchy sandwich topping. Then it’s finished with a drizzle of Creamy Sriracha.

Second, for a spicy Italian twist, there’s the Fiery Meatball. One of the most beloved sandwiches on Subway’s menu, the meatball sub is cranked up with pepperoni, meatballs, pepper jack cheese, jalapenos, creamy Sriracha sauce, melty pepper jack, and parmesan cheese.

Paul Fabre, senior vice president of culinary and innovation at Subway, had this to say about the spicy new sandwiches: “It’s been three years since Subway added a new sub bread to our menu, so we wanted to surprise our guests with something unexpected and capable of elevating every sub on our menu. Spicy food is wildly popular, and our guests have told us they are craving more spice on our menu. Subway’s new Ghost Pepper Bread opens up so many delicious possibilities to try, whether you are looking for a hearty kick on your favorite sandwich or maximum heat from our spiciest subs yet.”

Subway serves freshly made-to-order sandwiches, wraps, salads, and bowls to millions of guests across more than 100 countries and territories in nearly 37,000 restaurants every day.
