Sweetgreen Introduces Steak to the Menu

Sweetgreen, known for its signature salad bowls, has introduced steak to its menu for the first time, marking a significant change for the brand. The new Caramelized Garlic Steak option offers customers a red meat topping to complement their salads, grain bowls, and plates.

To accommodate this new addition, Sweetgreen is introducing three new entrees featuring the steak. These hearty dishes are designed for dinner, catering to the 35% of Sweetgreen customers who opt for the fast-casual staple in the evening.

The steak is made from grass-fed, pasture-raised beef, seasoned with a garlic spice blend, and roasted to perfection. Developed by Sweetgreen’s head of culinary, Chad Brauze, the steak is prepared using fine dining techniques, offering tender, bite-sized pieces that evoke classic steakhouse flavors.


According to Nation’s Restaurant News, you can now enjoy the savory caramelized garlic steak in two delicious ways — either as an additional protein or as part of three freshly crafted entrees:

  • Caramelized Garlic Steak Protein Plate: Featuring wild rice, spicy broccoli, roasted sweet potatoes, tomatoes, and a drizzle of pesto vinaigrette.
  • Steakhouse Chopped Warm Bowl: A delightful mix of chopped romaine, shredded cabbage, herbed quinoa, crispy onions, tomatoes, and blue cheese, all topped with the chain’s signature green goddess ranch dressing.
  • Kale Caesar (Steak) Salad: Enjoy the classic Caesar dressing paired with chopped romaine, shredded kale, tomatoes, crunchy parmesan crisps, shaved parmesan, and a zesty squeeze of lime.

Feedback from a test run in Boston showed mixed reviews on the steak’s texture and taste, with some noting its high price point. Despite this, Sweetgreen is hopeful that the steak offering will resonate with beef lovers, especially as the company strives to boost profitability.

Nicolas Jammet, Sweetgreen’s cofounder and chief concept officer, sees the introduction of steak as a pivotal moment in the brand’s menu innovation journey. With recent positive financial indicators, including surging stock prices and revenue exceeding estimates, Sweetgreen is poised for potential growth and success in the coming year.
