In an Instagram post released on Friday, Oct. 11, Taco Bell encouraged its customers to “be like the double decker taco. here for a good time, but not a long time.” The fast-food giant is already letting its customers know that the reintroduced menu item is only going to be available for a limited time.

The Double Decker is a typical crunchy taco with refried beans wrapped in a soft flour tortilla. It is available for $2 and will be served until Oct. 30.
The release of the Double Decker comes as the fast-food giant is making an effort to bring back what it’s calling the “nostalgia menu,” where fan favorites of times gone by return to the menu for a limited time. A “menu test” was conducted by Taco Bell from Aug. 15 to Aug. 21, and it was limited to three locations in Southern California: Barranca, Brea, and Fullerton. It included some iconic dishes that the fast-food juggernaut had initially released over the decades.
Even though the test ended in August, Taco Bell plans to reintroduce the times across the country later this year for a brief time, while products last.
“Thanks to our rich history, we have a vault of craveable products our fans have become passionate about and we continuously explore ways to reintroduce the ones that deliver on the comfort and value they are looking for,” said Taylor Montgomery, chief marketing officer of Taco Bell, in a statement accompanying the press release. “Now, we’re thrilled to unite two groups of fans: those who fondly remember these menu items and those who have yet to experience the delight of a Caramel Apple Empanada or savor their first bite of a Meximelt with this menu.”
Regional Taste-Testing
Late last month, the fast-food giant announced that it was testing new menu items in Ohio and North Carolina for possible nationwide inclusion.
As of Thursday, Sept. 26, the Mexican-inspired fast-food restaurant started testing out two new items: the Strawberry Passionfruit Aguas Refrescas in Charlotte, North Carolina, and the Caliente Cantina Chicken Burrito in Cincinnati, Ohio.
Included in the chain’s freshly unveiled Cantina Chicken Menu, the $5.99 burrito has a new hot sauce dubbed Caliente Sauce that combines red pepper, red jalapeño pepper, and ghost chili pepper. In an attempt to cash in on the nation’s love of chicken, Taco Bell debuted a new menu in March that included burritos, tacos, quesadillas, and a Cantina Chicken Bowl. The menu expanded nationwide.
Residents of Charlotte can purchase the Strawberry Passionfruit Aguas Refrescas, a 20-ounce cup of green tea blended with dehydrated strawberry chunks, for $3.99. In April, Taco Bell began testing Agua Refrescas with fruit infusions at a Southern California restaurant. Peach Mango and Dragonfruit Berry are the other two varieties that are offered there.
Additionally, the well-known fast-food restaurant company recently declared the temporary return of the Big Cheez-It Menu.
With the June national launch of the Big Cheez-It, consumers demanded more. This led Kellanova and the fast-food chain to bring back the Big Cheez-It novelty and add even more cheese to the Big Cheez-It Crunchwrap Supreme.
