Taco Bell, Walmart Listed Amongst Top Alabama Employers, According to New Report

December 30, 2024

Taco Bell and Walmart were among the top employers in Alabama last month, according to a new report by the state’s Department of Labor (via the World Population Review and WAFF TV).

According to the survey, Alabama saw around 80,000 job postings in November. More than 17,000 of the job postings paid less than $50,000 annually. Over 9,000 job ads advertised incomes of $70,000 or more, while about 5,400 job ads listed salaries between $50,000 and $69,000. Nearly 60% of all the job listings had no salary information posted.

Registered nurses, retail salespeople, supervisors of retail salespeople, heavy and tractor-trailer truck drivers, and customer service representatives were the five professions with the most job postings on the internet. In November, Huntsville Hospital had the most online job postings, followed by Walmart. Jack’s Family Restaurants, Taco Bell, and UAB Medicine rounded out the top five companies that publish the most job openings online.

Taco Bell Claims AI Will Streamline Its Work

Folks who are worried about AI taking their jobs don’t have to worry at Taco Bell now that the fast-food giant has implemented an AI protocol nationwide. The Tex-Mex-inspired restaurant says that the new technology will supplement and streamline the work, not take it away.

According to KRCR, the local ABC affiliate in central California, its anchors tested the AI deployment at their neighborhood Taco Bell, and the outcomes were positive for both patrons and staff.

“It’s helping me out. I used to have to double task to do both jobs taking cash and taking orders and now she does a really good job and she’s learning so it actually helps me out when I’m in the window,” said an employee.

According to the study, the team ordered 15 items, and the AI order-taker correctly identified every item. In a news release, Taco Bell promised both its customers and staff that its AI ordering technology would streamline the process and help personnel save time.

Customers who drive up to place an order should expect to speak with a machine rather than a live person. This is a result of the summer announcement by Taco Bell’s parent company, Yum! Brands, that it would implement artificial intelligence speech technology in its drive-thrus in hundreds of U.S. locations by the end of the year.
