Website Helps Taco Bell Customers Find Cheapest Locations
September 3, 2024
A Taco Bell fanatic has helped out their fellow fans by creating a website that shows them where to find the restaurants with the cheapest prices.
Food & Wine reports that the Taconomical website, which first was created in 2023, has gained incredible traction in recent months thanks to the devastating effects of inflation. The creator, Reddit user u/wise_genesis, said they designed the site to make it easier for people to find deals near them.
“It started as a bit of fun, and also because I’m a bit of a data nerd and cheapskate all in one,” they told Cheapism at the time. “It’s [wild] how much prices can vary. Walking a few blocks down the road can save you a few dollars in some cases.”
The official Taco Bell mobile ordering system provides data that the website pulls in order to function. According to the website, “All prices are correct at the time of retrieval.” On Friday, Aug. 30, the most costly Crunchwrap Supreme in the United States was selling for an astounding $8.49 at the Westfield Mall location in New Jersey, while the least expensive was selling for $3.39 at the Taco Bell shop at 2403 S Gregg St. in Big Spring, Texas.
Consumers can use the site to find the most and least expensive restaurants near them by zooming in on their local location. For example, the same Crunchwrap Supreme is now being sold for $5.29 at the Taco Bell location at 622 Market St. in Elmwood Park, which is only 2.6 miles from the Westfield Mall. Alternatively, you can locate one for less than $5 if you’re prepared to travel to East Rutherford.
And it’s not only Crunchwrap Supremes, either. In addition, users may narrow their search to the lowest Cravings Box offers, individual tacos, taco combo meals, and even guacamole.
Taco Bell Is Crunching Numbers
News of the website comes on the heels of the announcement that Taco Bell is discontinuing its breakfast service in some underperforming locations.
As previously reported, this autumn, several of the well-known fast-food chain’s restaurants will quit serving breakfast, depriving loyal patrons of their beloved hash browns and cheese-toasted burritos. According to the company, taking this action will help “streamline” menus. The move is expected to go into effect in October and will impact restaurants across the nation.
The number of restaurants that will be impacted overall by this change is uncertain, but 500 company-owned locations — not franchises — will continue to serve breakfast. In order to provide both sides “the flexibility to focus on key drivers of growth,” Taco Bell said that it offered franchisees the option to either retain breakfast on the menu or choose not to serve it.
