Taco Bell’s Decades Menu Is Filled With Nostalgic Fan-Favorites

October 24, 2024

Taco Bell has introduced a Decades Menu, which is a return to the nostalgic menu items that have become fan favorites. The fast-food restaurant is reviving five of its most in-demanded nostalgic menu items from its first five decades, each under $3 for a limited time.

The brand is celebrating generations of delicious eats by bringing back a taste of Taco Bell’s most mouth-watering hits across the first 50 years of its history. These menu items include the ‘60s Tostada, ‘70s Green Sauce Burrito, ‘80s Meximelt, and ‘90s Gordita, available starting Oct. 31, and the ‘00s iconic Caramel Apple Empanada, which is available starting Nov. 21. Taco Bell will also offer customers limited-edition, retro-inspired hoodies and cups designed with unique designs from the ‘60s through the ’00s.

Taylor Montgomery, Taco Bell’s chief marketing officer, explained in a press release why the return of these beloved menu items means so much to Taco Bell customers. “Everyone remembers the moment they fell in love with Taco Bell and that one special menu item that brings you right back,” Montgomery said. “The Decades Menu and the merch we’re creating are an ode to our rich history and a love letter to our fans, whether they’ve been rolling through our drive-thru for decades or are just about to discover their first Caramel Apple Empanada.”

All the Details Surrounding the Return of Taco Bell’s 5 Beloved Menu Items

The five menu items chosen to represent Taco Bell’s most beloved customer favorites are as varied as the decades they represent. There’s the Tostada, which was one of six menu items released in 1962 at Taco Bell’s very first California location. The Tostada is made of a crispy corn tostada shell, layered with refried beans, red sauce, lettuce, and shredded cheese, for $2.19. In the 1970s, a fan-favorite was the Green Sauce Burrito, which the press release called one of its “most-hacked” burritos. It’s filled with refried beans, crunchy onions, cheddar cheese, and a green sauce made of chili, tomatillos, jalapeño peppers, and spices. The cost? Just $2.49.

In the ’80s, there was the Meximelt, made with pico de gallo, seasoned beef, and mozzarella, cheddar, and Monterey Jack cheeses in a tortilla, available for $2.99. Also for the same price is the Gordita Supreme, which reigned in the ’90s for Taco Bell patrons. The menu item featured warm flatbread filled with seasoned beef, reduced-fat sour cream, lettuce, and mozzarella, cheddar, and Monterey Jack cheeses, and it’s topped with diced tomatoes.

Finally, for a sweet ending, there’s the ’00s Caramel Apple Empanada. It has a crispy exterior filled with apple pieces and caramel filling for just $2.99. The Caramel Apple Empanada will be available starting Nov. 21 for a limited time.
