Target Says It’s Closing 9 Stores Because of Surging Retail Thefts
September 26, 2023
Retail giant Target has announced the closure of nine stores across four states due to a surge in theft and organized retail crime, which has compromised the safety of employees and customers. The affected stores — three in San Francisco, three in Portland, two in Seattle, and one in New York City — will cease operations on Oct. 21. Target had previously implemented security measures, including hiring additional guards, in an effort to curb theft, but the challenges persisted, prompting the decision to shut down these locations.
