Target Revealed the First-Week Taylor Swift Book Numbers, and They’re Quite Impressive

December 9, 2024

Target has released the first-week sales of its exclusive Taylor Swift book as the singer just wrapped up her wildly successful Eras Tour, and the numbers are quite impressive.

In a press release announcement, it was revealed that with almost 1 million copies sold in its first week, the official “Taylor Swift | The Eras Tour Book,” which is only available at stores in the U.S., is the fastest-selling new release book in the past four years and the highest-selling Week 1 New Release print book of 2024 to date. Additionally, it’s the best-selling book in the Music category since Circana started keeping records two decades ago.

Before being made available on the retailer’s website and app on Saturday, Nov. 30, the book and “The Tortured Poets Department: The Anthology,” released for the first time on CD and vinyl, were only available in stores across the country on Black Friday.

“We knew the release of ‘Taylor Swift | The Eras Tour Book’ and ‘The Tortured Poets Department: The Anthology’ would be a huge, huge moment for Target shoppers and Taylor Swift fans everywhere, but seeing the record-breaking response unfold over the last week has been an absolute thrill,” said Rick Gomez, executive vice president and chief commercial officer of Target, in a statement accompanying the press release. “I’m incredibly proud of Target’s partnership with Taylor and the way our teams worked together to make this year’s Black Friday and Cyber Week unforgettable for so many people.”

Target First Announced the Drops Back in October

The retailer first announced the exclusive Eras Tour drop in October, but the “Shake It Off” singer and the retailer have been partners for years.

For many years, Taylor Swift has customarily bought a copy of her new albums on the day of release at Target. Swift began officially partnering with the retailer in 2008, during her “Fearless” era.

Swift has now made her albums available at the chain store in limited editions. “Come Back… Be Here,” “Girl At Home,” and “The Moment I Knew” were the bonus tracks included in a special 2012 edition of “Red.” Together with the original demo recordings of “Red” and “Treacherous,” the “Red” CD also featured an acoustic version of “State of Grace.”
