Toyota Recall: More Than 140,000 Vehicles Pose Safety Risk for Faulty Seat Belts & Brakes

February 12, 2025

The latest Toyota recall affects more than 140,000 vehicles as the car manufacturer states that there is a safety risk for faulty seat belts and brakes.

KBTX reports that there are actually two separate recalls for Toyota vehicles. The initial recall covers around 106,000 Toyota Tacomas manufactured between 2024 and 2025. Toyota officials say the rear brake hoses can break over time, resulting in a brake fluid leak and raising the danger of a crash.

The other recall affects some 2025 Toyota Camry and Lexus NX vehicles as well as select 2024 and 2025 Lexus RX cars — about 41,000 vehicles in total. Officials believe the vehicles may have defective seat belts that might not fulfill certain strength requirements. This may increase the likelihood of injuries during a crash.

Toyota and Lexus dealers will provide free repairs for the recalled vehicles.

To determine whether either recall applies to your vehicle, input your vehicle’s VIN into Toyota’s website or the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration’s website. Otherwise, the automaker will contact customers by early April if their vehicles have been recalled.

Toyota Is the Latest Car Manufacturer Affected by a Recall

This is the latest car recall faced by consumers. Last month, Ford recalled nearly 300,000 F-series vehicles due to faulty fuel pumps.

According to CBS News, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration reported that a defective gasoline pump might trigger a power outage, increasing the risk of an accident.

“Biodiesel deposits may form on the pump drivetrain roller components, which could lead to failure of the high-pressure fuel pump,” the NHTSA stated at the time.

When a vehicle’s fuel pump fails, drivers may experience “extended crank while starting, a Check Engine Light (CEL), noise, and reduced engine power.”

The Ford recall included no reports of accidents, injuries, or fires related to the fuel pump issue. The models affected by the Ford recall included:

  • 2020-2022 Ford Super Duty F-250, F-350, F-450, F-550, F-600
  • 2021-2022 Ford F-650, F-750

According to the automaker, Ford dealers can update the powertrain control module software for free. On Jan. 13, 2025, impacted car owners began receiving notification letters in the mail. Owners can contact Ford customer service at 1-866-436-7332 and reference the recall number 24S78.
