The New York Times reports that people hoping to get their hands on the new release camped out in front of stores for hours before they opened. In most instances, the bags sold out within the first 15 minutes of the store’s opening. This new edition comes in lively pastel shades of green, blue, purple, and pink.

“When it comes to our reusable bags, our customers have made themselves abundantly clear: the smaller the tote, the bigger the sensation,” the Trader Joe’s tote bag product page reads. “Last year, when we introduced our Mini Canvas Totes, we were so pleasantly surprised by their rapturous reception that we’re bringing in even more Mini Totes, this time in a series of Pastel shades to herald the beginning of spring.”

Subsequently, on eBay, bag resellers are charging prices of up to $75.95 for a set of four and often $20 or more for just one. This is quite the return for a tiny tote bag that retails for under $3.

In March 2024, USA Today reported that the original mini totes became so popular that customers waited in lengthy lines to get their hands on them. Employees were often forced to limit how many bags customers could purchase.

The “mini canvas tote bags certainly sold more quickly than we anticipated,” Trader Joe’s representative Nakia Rohde told the news outlet in 2024. “Before we had the opportunity to promote them in any way, customers across the country found them at their neighborhood Trader Joe’s.”
