Twitter repositions to run on its own

Twitter, in a rare twist, beat analysts' expectations with its latest quarterly report, posting earnings of 13 cents per share and revenue of $616 million. With an acquisition looking unlikely, management also announced that the company would lay off about 9 percent of its workforce, mostly affecting sales, marketing and partnerships.
