Tyson Foods Recalls 30,000 Pounds of Dinosaur Nuggets With Metal

On Nov. 4, Tyson Foods recalled nearly 30,000 pounds of dinosaur-shaped chicken nuggets. This nationwide recall came into effect after Tyson Foods Inc., one of the world’s largest meat producers, discovered small metal pieces in their “Fully Cooked Fun Nuggets Breaded Shaped Chicken Patties.”

These chicken nuggets are sold in 29-ounce plastic bags. They boast a fun dinosaur shape, and they are currently under recall due to concerns raised by the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS). The batch of nuggets in question was manufactured by a food processing company based in Arkansas on Sept. 5.

The packaging of the product is easily recognizable due to its design. It features two cartoon dinosaurs — one green and one red — observing a plate full of breaded nuggets.

Approximately 29,819 pounds of the dinosaur-themed breaded nuggets are involved in this recall. The FSIS has identified specific lot codes for the potentially affected product: 2483BRV0207, 2483BRV0208, 2483BRV0209, and 2483BRV0210. All afflicted bags also have a “best if used by” date of Sept. 4, 2024.

This issue came to light after Tyson Foods received multiple consumer complaints about the unexpected contaminants. In its announcement, the company stated, “A limited number of consumers have reported they found small, pliable metal pieces in the product, and out of an abundance of caution, the company is recalling this product.”

Distributor locations in nine states — Alabama, California, Illinois, Kentucky, Michigan, Ohio, Tennessee, Virginia, and Wisconsin — have been identified as recipients of the potentially compromised product. The FSIS urges suppliers from these regions to exercise caution and check their stocks immediately.

Despite the alarming nature of the incident, the federal agency reported only one known case of a “minor oral injury” linked to consumption of the affected product. No further instances of injury or illness have been reported thus far.

Consumers are advised to check any “Fully Cooked Fun Nuggets Breaded Shaped Chicken Patties” they may have purchased to ensure safety. According to Tyson, “Consumers who have purchased the affected item should cut the UPC and date code from the packaging, discard the product and call or text 1-855-382-3101.”
