Uber Will Pay Drivers $1000 To Stop Driving — Here’s How
June 28, 2024
Uber has announced a new initiative to pay drivers $1000 to stop driving their cars for five weeks.
In an official announcement, which was made on Thursday, June 27, the One Less Car initiative will provide the incentive in the form of credits in the app if commuters choose to use public transportation during that time, instead of driving their cars.
175 car owners in Los Angeles, Chicago, Washington DC, Miami, San Francisco, Toronto, and Vancouver will get the offer. They can apply for the program here.
“For those selected to participate in the trial, failure to meet the requirements of the trial may result in disqualification from the trial. Uber shall not owe any payments or compensation to those who fail to meet the trial requirements,” Uber notes, in the official statement.
The credits will be broken down as follows: $500 in credit redeemable on the Uber app, a $200 voucher for car rental or carshare services, and $300 for use on alternate modes such as public transport.
The initiative, which will be available in select cities in the United States and Canada, is the rideshare giant’s latest effort to drum up business and help reduce emissions.
Last month, at its annual Go-Get presentation, Uber unveiled a number of new initiatives, including benefits for Costco members and shuttle rides to airports.
Users can save 25% on average by scheduling a shared transport at least 10 minutes in advance according to a recently revealed function. Uber states that more places will be added, although this option will first be available in “cities with some of the highest return-to-office rates,” including New York, Los Angeles, San Francisco, San Diego, Atlanta, and Chicago.
The massive ridesharing company wanted to draw new users to the app and assist users save money on meals and transportation.
Additionally, Instacart and Uber Technologies Inc. have partnered to allow users to order restaurant delivery from Uber Eats.
Customers of Instacart can now order food from restaurants that are powered by Uber Eats using their app. The “Restaurants” section of the Instacart app is where they will begin their buying expedition. With this option, customers will then be able to choose from a number of nearby restaurants. They can also browse menus, place orders, and track deliveries in real time.
