Unsold inventory piles up for retailers

The ratio of inventory to sales hit an almost 11-year high in March, according to the Federal Reserve Bank of St. Louis, as businesses were forced to close as a result of the novel coronavirus outbreak. The metric for April, due to be released in the coming weeks, is expected to be even higher.
