US House Panel Chair: Wider Chinese iPhone Ban Aims To Quash Apple’s Market Access
September 8, 2023
China has expanded its ban on state employees using iPhones, which is viewed as an attempt to limit the market access of Western companies, according to U.S. Representative Mike Gallagher, chairman of the U.S. House panel on China. He stated that this move reflects the Chinese Communist Party’s strategy of promoting domestic champions in telecommunications while squeezing the market access of Western firms. This comes as tensions between China and the U.S. continue to escalate, causing Apple’s shares to drop by about 3%.
