Walmart Broccoli Recall Affects 20 States: Is Yours Affected?
January 2, 2025
A broccoli recall affects Walmart locations in 20 states. Is your local store affected?
The United States Food and Drug Administration announced that Braga Fresh voluntarily issued a recall of a single production lot of washed and ready-to-eat 12-ounce Marketside Broccoli Florets with a “best if used by” date of Dec 10, 2024. Although this product is past its date and no longer sold in stores, some consumers may have frozen the item for later use. Therefore, any Walmart customers who have frozen this product should discard it and not eat it.
The FDA recall was put in place due to the potential for contamination with Listeria monocytogenes, a pathogen that can cause food poisoning and can be particularly harmful to certain groups, including the elderly, those with compromised immune systems, and pregnant women.
The potential contamination was discovered during random sampling by Texas Health & Human Services from a Texas store location. Subsequently, 20 states are impacted by the recall: Alaska, Arkansas, Arizona, California, Colorado, Idaho, Illinois, Indiana, Kentucky, Louisiana, Michigan, Montana, Nevada, Ohio, Oklahoma, Oregon, Texas, Utah, Washington, and Wyoming.

Lay’s Potato Chips Were Also Recalled by the FDA
Last month, the FDA also issued a recall for Lay’s Classic Potato Chips due to an undeclared allergen. The affected products were sold to certain stores and e-commerce distributors in Oregon and Washington, according to the FDA.
The retailer pulled Frito-Lay’s 13-ounce bags of Lay’s Classic Potato Chips after it was revealed the chips may contain undeclared milk. The alert was made through a consumer contact. Therefore, those with an allergy or severe sensitivity to milk run the risk of a serious or life-threatening allergic reaction if they consume the recalled product.
The UPC for the recalled chip bags are 28400 and 31041. Must have both a “Guaranteed Fresh” date of Feb. 11, 2025, and one of the following manufacturing codes: 6462307xx or 6463307xx.
Consumers would have been able to purchase these chips as early as Nov. 3, 2024. No allergic reactions related to this matter have been reported to date, and no other Lay’s products, flavors, sizes, or variety packs were recalled.
Frito-Lay has informed the FDA of its decision to pull the affected products from store shelves. Consumers with the product described above can contact Frito-Lay Consumer Relations at 1-800-352-4477 (9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. CST, Monday through Friday).
