Walmart Expands Same-Day Delivery, Reaching 93% of Households

February 26, 2025

Walmart can now deliver orders to 93% of U.S. households with same-day delivery.

Per the company’s recent earnings release, “We expanded our U.S. store-fulfilled delivery areas in Q4 FY25. We can now reach 93% of U.S. households with same-day delivery.”

A secondary statement elaborates further, “Speed of delivery is increasingly important to our customers. Walmart International items delivered same- and next-day increased approximately 30%, compared to the prior year.” This amounted to around 2.3 billion items delivered the same day or the next day in fiscal 2025.

Additionally, Walmart’s marketplace grew 34% in the U.S. This growth was strengthened by giving customers a bigger selection of general merchandise brands and items.

“If I could change anything about how we’re perceived today, it’d be that more people know about our breadth of assortment online and our increasing delivery speed,” CEO Doug McMillon said on an earnings call regarding the company’s delivery fulfillment program.

“For Walmart U.S., we recently announced same-day pharmacy delivery and the early response has been strong,” he added. “Customers love being able to get a basket of items delivered to their door that includes fresh, frozen, general merchandise and now pharmacy. And because we’re so close to them, they can get it fast.”

Walmart’s CFO John Rainey added, “The popularity of expedited delivery has resulted in more than 30% of orders coming from customers and members that elected to pay a convenience fee to receive their scheduled delivery in less than one hour or less than three hours.”

Walmart’s Expansive Delivery Service Builds on Its Same-Day Pharmacy Delivery

In January 2025, Walmart announced that its same-day pharmacy delivery is now available to hundreds of millions of customers in 49 states. The retailer was the first to integrate pharmacy, general merchandise, and grocery items all in a single online order.

Pharmacy delivery is led by more than 15,000 pharmacists across the country who give customers more convenient access to care through the delivery of prescriptions and medication refills. Paired with the stores’s regular delivery options, pharmacy customers can now get everything they need right from home, according to a press release.

“It’s an expectation now that you can have your groceries delivered – you can have everything you need delivered to your home,” stated Bonnie Chandler, pharmacy manager at Store 4460 in North Little Rock, Arkansas. “Your healthcare should be similar to that as well.”
