Walmart Heightens Dorm Room Shopping Experience With Walmart Realm

August 7, 2024

Walmart introduced the virtual shopping platform Walmart Realm in May. Now, it has improved the immersive experience to help college students find the decor, clothing, and essentials of their dreams.

Instead of going from store to store to try and find items that may fit together to create a comfortable and useful dorm room space, Walmart Realm has formulated a complete one-stop shop for parents and students. Now, consumers can browse virtual 3D environments and purchase products within them from the comfort of their homes.

On top of the three original themes from Walmart Realm, the dorm room decor comes in five different styles: Royal, Sanrio, Serene Retreat, Y2K, and LoFi. Each style has decor that completes an entire look to create any student’s dream dorm room. Along with home goods, there are also everyday beauty and fashion essentials suggested by some of today’s top influencers, including Mai Pham, Nava Rose, and Makenzie and Malia Fowler.

Walmart Realm consists of virtual storefronts based on insights from Pinterest Predicts, a trend forecasting report that compiles data on the aesthetics most likely to go viral each year. The site has two tabs: Shops and Discover. The Shops are part of an immersive world where products can be viewed. In the Discover tab, shoppers can purchase items they are interested in.

Walmart Realm’s new back-to-school experience is a way for the retail giant to showcase deals that could attract shoppers who typically do not shop at Walmart. Tying together aesthetically pleasing items with great deals is a way to entice new shoppers into the store and retain those who typically spend their hard-earned cash there.

Adding to the deals, this past July, Walmart announced that it is offering “thousands of the best back-to-school products, from pens and backpacks to first-day fits and lunchboxes, under $10.” Walmart’s selection of low-cost items remains the leader in helping parents, teachers, and students purchase everything they need and want for the approaching school year.

In a store press release, Julie Barber, executive vice president of general merchandise at Walmart, stated, “At Walmart, we are proud to offer a back-to-school assortment that will excite our customers — enabling them to find everything on their list at the prices they know they can trust us to deliver. My team and I look forward to being a part of such a memorable time in our customers’ lives each year!”
