Walmart Same-Day Pharmacy Delivery Is Now Available Across the United States

January 31, 2025

Walmart pharmacy delivery is now available across the United States. The company has used AI and technology to enable nationwide medication delivery.

According to a press release, Walmart now has same-day pharmacy delivery available to its customers in 49 states. It states that the retailer is “the first to integrate pharmacy, general merchandise and grocery in a single online order. Same-Day Pharmacy Delivery, one of Walmart’s most expansive technology undertakings, is a tech-powered store-to-door service, using a combination of highly complex in-store and cloud-based technology platforms, AI capabilities and a new geospatial platform.”

Walmart’s pharmacy delivery option allows for a “nationwide presence” and “profound expertise in pharmacy and store deliveries.” This initiative is led by more than 15,000 pharmacists across the United States, allowing customers convenient and affordable access to care.

This new platform is a game-changer for shoppers, who typically remain in the store while their prescription orders are being filled. They no longer have to go to the store just to fill a prescription.

“It’s an expectation now that you can have your groceries delivered – you can have everything you need delivered to your home,” Bonnie Chandler, pharmacy manager at Store 4460 in North Little Rock, Arkansas, said in the press release. “Your healthcare should be similar to that as well.”

Walmart’s offering delivery to 49 states is directly connected to the store’s AI-powered delivery platform, Spark. This platform uses geospatial technology to define delivery areas more precisely. It has thus expanded regular pharmacy delivery to 12 million more households.

How Is This Type of Program Beneficial to Walmart Shoppers?

The expansion of Walmart’s delivery footprint is highly beneficial to the store’s shoppers. It puts customers of all age and demographic groups on equal footing.

Once a pharmacist fills a customer’s prescription, the customer is notified through their Walmart.com account that their order is ready to be delivered. Customers will then choose the delivery option that works best for them. Currently, the choices are same-day scheduled, on-demand, or express.

All applicable insurance plans will be applied to a customer transaction the same as they would if a customer was shopping in person. A driver will be dispatched to the customer’s chosen location during a time they select for delivery. Walmart assures customers that “medications are delivered in tamper-evident packaging and customers can track their orders in real-time.”

According to the press release, Walmart+ members will receive free Pharmacy Delivery as a member benefit. Customers who are not yet members will be charged per their choice of delivery preference.

This new service is in effect as of Jan. 30, 2025.
