Wendy’s Will Launch in Ireland & Expand in the UK, Creating Thousands of Jobs

November 20, 2024

Wendy’s is taking its signature hamburgers and Frosty treats to our neighbors across the pond, expanding its presence to include Ireland and more of the U.K.

A press release announcement was the first to reveal the U.K.’s expansion, with plans for the Dave Thomas-founded fast-food giant to open in Newcastle, joining the Whitby, Barlborough, and Kirkby locations. Other locations will open in Rutland (in the Midlands), Colchester (in the Southeast), another London location on Fulham Road, and six new restaurants in Southwest England. Thousands of jobs are anticipated to be created with these new locations.

“Wendy’s is poised for tremendous growth and expansion across the U.K. and Europe,” said E.J. Wunsch, president of international for The Wendy’s Company, in a statement accompanying the press release. “We are thrilled to welcome Khidmat Limited to the Wendy’s family and we look forward to partnering with them to further expand the brand’s footprint and unlock new opportunities to bring our fresh famous food to fans across the country.”

Meanwhile, RTE is reporting that when Wendy’s opens in Ireland, some 300 jobs will be created.

The fast-food giant and Corrib Oil, a petrol and service station company, have agreed to become franchise partners in Ireland. From 2025 to 2027, Corrib intends to open 10 Wendy’s locations throughout Ireland.

The first site locations will be a combination of freestanding restaurants and new Wendy’s offerings at current Corrib service station locations; these will be revealed in the New Year.

Wendy’s Is Using AI

Meanwhile, in the States, the fast-food giant made headlines when it announced that it was using AI to keep up with the growing Frosty demand.

Palantir Technologies is helping the fast-food juggernaut meet its demand. Palantir, a data analytics company, employs artificial intelligence to detect shortages before they happen so that the supply chain team is ready to serve customers if a $1 Frosty deal draws sizable crowds.

The restaurant industry is facing challenges due to growing labor and ingredient costs following years of high inflation. AI is beginning to gain traction in this industry. This has compelled an already profit-constrained business to take a closer look at cost containment.
