Trump administration weakens ‘joint employer’ rule affecting franchisers

Yesterday, the Labor Department rewrote a rule championed by the Obama administration that made companies like McDonald’s liable for the violations of its franchisees, classifying said companies as “joint employers”. With the new rule, said by opponents to weaken the power of unions, the corporation is only responsible if it maintains “direct control” over the individual franchisee’s policies.
