Plastic ban goes into effect in New York City

Residents of New York’s five boroughs are going to have to bring their own reusable bags or pay for paper bags now that a citywide ban on single-use plastic bags has gone into effect. The city has said it doesn’t plan to begin fining retailers who violate the new law until next month in an effort to assist in the transition.
