John Mackey, co-founder and CEO of Whole Foods Market, said his company was in danger after JANA Partners, a hedge fund, took an 8.8 percent share and began lobbying shareholders to sell the grocery chain. When Amazon.com came along, it was “love at first sight,” according to Mr. Mackey.
