CDC tracks COVID-19 variants online

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention have begun tracking three new variants of COVID-19 and publishing a state-by-state breakdown. The strains currently include the UK variant along with others first identified in South Africa and Brazil. The UK strain, first seen in the UK in September, is much more contagious than the original virus, with more than 60 percent of those infected in England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland in December coming from that variant.
