U.S. Payrolls Rise By Only 1000 Jobs In December

The Labor Department reported only a slight improvement in the jobless rate today as compared to the 150,000 additional jobs expected by analysts. The unemployment rate decreased to 5.7 percent from 5.9 percent. Retail businesses dropped 38,000 workers last month on the tail of a decline of 28,000 jobs in November.
