Dana Hutson, an Army veteran from North Carolina, has been recognized as the Peer Leader of the Year by the Wounded Warrior Project (WWP). Dana, who actively supports and mentors wounded veterans, leads a peer support group and regularly hosts online teleconferences to provide support and guidance to veterans, even reaching as far as Kuwait. She also serves as a warrior leader, participates in mental health workshops, and advocates for legislative support for veterans.
WWP’s CEO, Lt. Gen. (Ret.) Mike Linnington, surprised Dana during a teleconference to express his gratitude and announce her as the recipient of the Rusty Baggett Peer Leader of the Year award. The award recognizes wounded veterans who demonstrate exceptional leadership and dedication in supporting fellow veterans. Dana, along with three other regional winners, was selected for her outstanding contributions.
Dana expressed her gratitude for the honor and highlighted the fulfillment she derives from serving other veterans, emphasizing how it positively impacts her own well-being. WWP facilitates over 100 Peer Support Groups nationwide, enabling veterans to connect, share experiences, and receive support. The organization provides various volunteering opportunities for veterans to get involved and make a difference in the lives of others.
Founded in 2003, the Wounded Warrior Project is dedicated to meeting the needs of wounded warriors, their families, and caregivers, empowering them to achieve their goals and aspirations.
