Wendy’s Is Reportedly Launching SpongeBob SquarePants Krabby Patty Burger

August 26, 2024

A new report suggests that Wendy’s is launching a Krabby Patty Burger in collaboration with the popular cartoon SpongeBob SquarePants.

Popverse claims that the fast-food giant is launching this limited-edition themed burger alongside a similarly themed Frosty beginning on Oct. 8 in select stores.

The alleged correspondence from Wendy’s, which has been posted to Reddit, states that the meat-filled Krabby Patty it produces will be covered with “a secret Krabby Patty Sauce, capturing the magic of the iconic fictional sandwich for SpongeBob fans.”

This was supposed to be released alongside a vanilla-flavored Pineapple Under the Sea Frosty and a Pineapple Mango purée.

Neither Paramount nor Wendy’s responded to the outlet’s request for comment. RetailWire has reached out to executives from both companies for comment and clarification, and we will keep you posted on any developments as they become available.

News of this rumored collaboration would provide some positive press to Wendy’s, which recently came under fire when its CEO, Kirk Tanner, announced his plans to introduce dynamic pricing to the fast-food giant.

Tanner declared that it will invest $20 million by 2025 in digital menu boards, with the goal of testing techniques such as dynamic pricing.

His earnings statements went viral in a matter of days. When Wendy’s was accused of price gouging customers in the face of escalating fast-food pricing — which led many to compare the company to Uber and its surge pricing strategy — widespread outrage broke out.

However, Wendy’s retorted that it never intended to raise in-restaurant costs for patrons at busy times. The company clarified in a statement released 12 days following the results call that Tanner’s remarks had been “misconstrued,” with certain media outlets mistaking dynamic pricing for surge pricing.

According to Wendy’s, pricing won’t be raised “when our customers are visiting us most.”

“Digital menuboards could allow us to change the menu offerings at different times of day and offer discounts and value offers to our customers more easily, particularly in the slower times of day,” the company said in the statement. “Wendy’s has always been about providing high-quality food at a great value, and customers can continue to expect that from our brand.”
