Wendy’s Is Throwing Shade at McDonald’s With $1 Frosty Ad Campaign

September 27, 2024

Wendy’s new ad campaign advertising its $1 Frosty has taken aim at McDonald’s for its notoriously broken ice cream machines.

In a press release announcement, it was revealed that the fast-food giant teamed up with the notorious McBroken.com website, which reports on McDonald’s ice cream machines across the nation that are broken, to determine which cities had the most downtime and identified them as Chicago, Houston, Las Vegas, New York, and Los Angeles.

“Using data from McBroken.com, Wendy’s saw that dessert fans are faced with ice cream machine outages all too often and knew just what the fix was — a Frosty! Wendy’s knows that when fans are craving a sweet treat, they deserve to have a reliable and delicious option,” the fast-food company stated in the press release.

Currently, a small Frosty only costs $1 through Sept. 30. Customers can get a Classic Chocolate Frosty or a Vanilla Frosty, which is back for a limited time.

To guarantee there is a Frosty with their name on it when they arrive, customers can even utilize McBroken.com to find the closest Wendy’s location or place an order in advance.

Wendy’s May Have Another Frosty Flavor Soon

Earlier this week, it was speculated that Wendy’s may be partnering with SpongeBob SquarePants to release a limited edition “Under the Sea” themed Frosty later this year.

The well-known Instagram user @mnmtwinz recently shared a post that suggested a possible new partnership between the massive fast-food chain and the well-liked kids’ program. According to the account, starting on Oct. 8, the Frosty with a SpongeBob theme will be accessible for a limited time. This frozen treat is a tropical take on Wendy’s classic Vanilla Frosty, made with a rich Pineapple Mango puree.

This isn’t the first time that rumors have spread about this collaboration with SpongeBob SquarePants.

According to reports, the fast-food giant revealed internally last month that it will be launching a limited-edition Krabby Patty burger along with this Frosty, both of which would be available for purchase starting on Oct. 8 in select locations.

The meat-filled Krabby Patty would be covered with “a secret Krabby Patty Sauce, capturing the magic of the iconic fictional sandwich for SpongeBob fans,” according to the alleged Wendy’s communication that was posted to Reddit.

Popverse, the outlet that broke the story first, contacted Wendy’s and Paramount for a response, but neither business provided one. RetailWire has reached out to executives from both companies to get their thoughts and clarification and will share any new information as it becomes available.
