Taco Bell Tests New Drink-Focused Cafe, Which Could Give Starbucks and Dunkin’ a Run for Their Money

December 10, 2024

Taco Bell is testing a new drink-focused cafe that has the potential to compete with major chains such as Starbucks and Dunkin’.

The Live Más Café recently opened in San Diego, California. It features a menu focused on beverages, including milkshakes, coffees, fruity iced drinks, and its version of the dirty soda trend featuring its trademark Mountain Dew Baja Blast beverage.

CNN shared a statement from R.J. Hottovy, head of analytical research at Placer.ai, who stated, “Taco Bell, like a lot of quick-service restaurant brands, recognizes the large opportunity in beverages. Beverage chains have been among the fastest-growing chains in the restaurant industry from a visitation standpoint the past two years.”

Hottovy added that this type of restaurant could potentially attract younger consumers to the cafe, allowing Taco Bell to “expand and diversify its audience.” The fast-food chain said in a statement that this cafe has a “plan to disrupt the beverage industry.”

Some of the cafe’s unique beverages include frozen coffee and shakes called Chillers; Agua Refrescas, a green tea-based drink with fruit pieces; and new cold brew coffee options in partnership with Beekeeper. The debut of the cafe comes just ahead of the chain’s second Live Más LIVE event, which will be held on Jan. 28, 2025, at the Hollywood Palladium.

What Is Taco Bell’s Live Más LIVE?

Taco Bell’s second Live Más LIVE event will unveil 2025’s biggest innovations — on and off the company’s menu. Per a recent press release, guests will enjoy exclusive access to innovative products, trailblazing partnerships, live entertainment, and an unparalleled fan celebration.

“Live Más LIVE is all about celebrating the passion and energy of our fans, whether they’re joining us in person or tuning in online, and this year, we’re turning things up a notch,” said CEO Sean Tresvant. “We’re bringing fans closer than ever before by giving them exclusive access to the innovation, collaborations, and unforgettable experiences that define Taco Bell. To ‘Live Más’ in 2025 isn’t just about what’s on the menu — it’s about connecting with our community, pushing boundaries, and reimagining what it means to be part of the Taco Bell family.”

In February 2024, the first event shared details of new and crave-worthy Taco Bell menu items. The livestreamed event helped usher in over 30 new and exciting products.

These items included the Cheesy Chicken Crispanada, Cheesy Street Chalupas, Cantina Chicken Menu, the Baja Blast Gelato, Big Cheez-It Crunchwrap Supreme, and others that were a hit with fans throughout the year. The event also launched collaborations with Salt & Straw, Beekeeper Coffee, and emerging chefs.

Taco Bell’s Live Más LIVE will stream live on the chain’s YouTube channel on Jan. 28, 2025, at 5 p.m. PT. On Tuesday, Dec. 10 at 2 p.m. PT, Taco Bell FIRE!
