McDonald’s Announces Historic Collaboration With WNBA Angel Reese

February 3, 2025

McDonald’s has announced a groundbreaking partnership with WNBA star Angel Reese, marking its first national meal collaboration with a female athlete.

According to Andscape, The Angel Reese Special, set to launch on Feb. 10, features a BBQ Bacon Quarter Pounder with Cheese, medium fries, and a medium drink, with Reese’s preferred Hi-C Orange Lavaburst as the beverage suggestion in McDonald’s ad. This collaboration also introduces a bold barbecue sauce, reflecting Reese’s dynamic personality.

Reese, who has long connected with the fast-food giant since her youth, told the outlet that the partnership felt predestined. She emphasized the authenticity of the collaboration, noting that McDonald’s sees her as “strong, confident and unapologetically” herself.

This initiative is part of McDonald’s broader strategy to engage with the basketball community through various programs and campaigns throughout the year. Celebrity meal collaborations have proven successful, driving significant sales and brand engagement. The Angel Reese Special is anticipated to continue this trend, appealing to basketball fans and general consumers alike.

“There’s a real connection between McDonald’s and basketball fans,” said Jennifer “JJ” Healan, VP of marketing, brand, content & culture at McDonald’s, in a press release. “We want to continue to fuel their love for the game and support athletes on and off the court. We’re excited to bring our legacy with basketball culture to a new generation, and partnering with Angel is only the beginning.”

McDonald’s Recently Announced a Collaboration With Pokémon

Just last month, the fast-food giant announced a limited-time partnership with the global gaming craze, Pokémon.

Until late February 2025, Pokémon fans can get a four-card Pokémon TCG booster and a sticker activity sheet with every Happy Meal. Furthermore, hungry Pokémon enthusiasts in the United States can use the McDonald’s app to get a Happy Meal and receive 24 pack hourglasses and 12 wonder hourglasses for the Pokémon Trading Card Game Pocket app.

The deal began on Jan. 21 and is now available nationwide at all Mickey D’s restaurants.

Each Happy Meal includes a TCG booster pack with four of 15 available cards: Charizard, Pikachu, Miraidon, Jigglypuff, Hatenna, Dragapult, Quagsire, Koraidon, Umbreon, Hydreigon, Roaring Moon, Dragonite, Eevee, Rayquaza, and Drampa. In addition to the cards, participants will receive a Pokémon poster and a sticker sheet to decorate it.

“There’s nothing more exciting than when we can bring campaigns to our fans with partners that we’re fans of ourselves,” said Guillaume Huin, senior marketing director at McDonald’s, in the chain’s press release. “Much like they do for McDonald’s, our fans have deep nostalgia and love for the Pokémon brand. We’re thrilled to build on those great memories and create a new moment of fun and happiness with the new Pokémon Happy Meal.”
