C&S Wholesale Grocers Makes Changes

C&S Wholesale Grocers Inc., the nation’s third largest food wholesale and distribution company, reports the creation of a holding company to oversee the five independent business entities which comprise the company as well as the promotion of some of the company’s executives.

“The creation of C&S Holdings empowers each of our business entities to tap into the knowledge and best practices of the others in an unprecedented fashion,” says CEO Rick Cohen. “The leaders of C&S Holdings are seasoned executives who excel in their individual fields and bring incredible vision and abilities to achieve results and implement strategies on a very broad scale.”

Also, two executive promotions were announced. Ron Wright, acting President of ES3, the newest of C&S Holdings’ companies, has been promoted to president of C&S Holdings. Ed Albertian, a co-founder of Staples, Inc., has been promoted to president of C&S Wholesale Grocers, Inc.

Moderator Comment: What are the future challenges/prospects
for C&S Wholesale Grocers?

We remember when Ed Albertian joined Streamline, there
was speculation in some quarters that Mr. Albertian was brought in to find a
buyer/partner for the e-grocer. That didn’t happen (not for lack of trying,
we understand). Mr. Albertian was widely credited with making a good deal for
Star Markets when it was purchased by Shaw’s. Is C&S up next as the consolidation
wheel spins round and round? [George
