Consumers cut spending in April after shopping big in March

Consumer spending in March (up one percent) posted its biggest one-month gain since August 2009, which makes it easier to understand April’s 0.1 percent pullback. The drop in April was the first monthly decrease in a year, according to the Commerce Department.
