Toymakers and media giant settle suit for tracking kids online

Hasbro, JumpStart Games, Mattel and Viacom have reached a settlement with the New York Attorney General’s office following a two-year investigation that showed these companies used tracking technology to illegally follow kids online. The companies, whose websites include Nick Jr. and Nickelodeon (Viacom); Barbie, Hot Wheels, and American Girl (Mattel); Neopets (JumpStart); and My Little Pony, Littlest Pet Shop, and Nerf (Hasbro), agreed to pay a combined $835,000 in penalties while pledging to make reforms that will protect the privacy of kids.
