Trump’s trade policy rhetoric floats air of uncertainly over retail

December 6, 2016

Many in the retail industry hoped that, post-election, President-elect Trump would back off from his attacks on U.S. trade policy, but that hasn’t been the case, and the prospect of a 35 percent tax on imported goods is causing a fair amount of unease. “From our perspective,” said Hun Quach, vice president of international trade at the RILA, “the 35 percent tariff is worrisome. Because our foremost priority is our consumers, our customers. We want to make sure we’re selling the goods that our customers want to buy at the price they want to pay.”
