Costco posts healthy sales and profit gains

Costco’s same-store sales grew five percent in the first quarter, outpacing Wall Street expectations of 3.9 percent. CFO Richard Galanti said shopping frequency at the chain’s clubs and average ring both improved during the quarter. Costco’s earnings per share improved to $1.40, ahead of the $1.31 analysts had forecast.
