August jobless numbers down slightly but economy on track

About 156,000 jobs were added to the U.S. economy in August, according this morning’s report from the Labor department, resetting the jobless rate at 4.4 percent. August is typically a soft month for hiring so, although the jobs numbers were slightly lower than expected by economists, the generally strong momentum that the economy has demonstrated this year appears to be continuing.
