Small businesses have played up the positive economic impact of buying local, but their ultimate success comes from being able to build relationships with members of the communities they serve. John Dudas, co-owner of Carol & John’s Comic Book Shop in Cleveland, recently participated in Local Comic Shop Day and also plans other events including throwing a party where artists will draw pictures of customers. Mr. Dudas also plans to sell 80,000 comic books during a $1 sales event.
