According to an NBC News investigation, the tips shoppers provide to Instacart and Doordash workers don’t always go directly to them in the way one might expect. Most consumers assume a tip of, say, $5 on a $100 order would go directly to the delivery worker, however the services use a complicated payment structure that sometimes uses that money to supplement the worker’s base delivery fee.
