Indy retailers struggle in Bay Area

Technology businesses have created a booming economy in the San Francisco Bay area. Unfortunately, many small retailers have found that higher rents, rising wages and healthcare costs and increased competition from online rivals have made it more difficult than ever to stay afloat. The number of small retail businesses fell significantly in the area between 2007 and 2017, according to California’s Economic Development Department.
