Bojangles Returns to Its Southern Roots With Its Latest Offering. Here Are the Details

March 4, 2025

Bojangles has specialized in Southern-inspired fast food for decades. Now, the chain is returning to its roots with its latest menu offering. Here are the details.

Bojangles Adds Chicken & Waffles to the Menu

According to Allrecipes, the fast-food chain is honoring a Southern tradition that’s at every brunch table: chicken and waffles. Bojangles has added the renowned dish to its menu, but in typical Bo-Time style, it has added Bo-Berries to give it a unique twist.

While the fast-food chain has long been known for its loaded biscuits, this is its first excursion into waffles — an unexpected decision given how rarely waffles appear on fast-food menus.

The fast-food chain’s version of the dish consists of two Bo-Berry-infused waffles (golden brown with deep ridges and a crunchy outside) sandwiching a hot and crispy Cajun filet. The whole dish is coated with a delicious Bo-Berry honey glaze, resulting in the perfect sweet-and-savory Southern breakfast treat.

What’s the best part? This is not just a weekend deal. Chicken and Bo-Berry Waffles are served all day, seven days a week. Whether you’re looking for a leisurely brunch or a midweek pick-me-up, brunch is available at all hours.

“For many people, Sunday brunch has become a highlight of the weekend,” Tom Boland, Bojangles’ chief marketing officer, shared in a press release. “Our Chicken and Bo-Berry Waffles are the ultimate indulgence, whether you’re enjoying brunch with company or treating yourself. We’re making sure guests never have to settle — because brunch should never be put on hold.”

From March 3 to 9, guests may receive a free Chicken and Bo-Berry Waffle with any order of $20 or more by entering the promo code “BrunchEveryDay” at checkout. The promotion is valid at participating restaurants and may be accessed through the company’s app, DoorDash, Grubhub, and Uber Eats delivery services.

This sweet-savory combination sets it apart from traditional fast-food brunch options like McDonald’s McGriddles or Wendy’s breakfast sandwiches, which focus more on classic biscuit or pancake pairings. It remains to be seen how successful this traditional Southern offering will be amongst customers.

New Chicken Nuggets Recipe?

Last November, the fast-food giant introduced Bo Bites, a new menu item that challenged the traditional chicken nuggets recipes found at most restaurants.

“We invite our fans to sink their teeth into something new, and Bo Bites are the perfect way to do that — packed with the legendary taste they love in a bite-sized form,” said Boland in a statement at the time. “So, RIP Nuggets because Bojangles’ Bo Bites are here, and they are scary good.”

Despite the new menu offering, however, the company didn’t rank amongst customers who were asked to choose their favorite chicken nuggets in October 2024. McDonald’s was the most popular restaurant in 21 states, followed by Chick-fil-A in 19 states, mostly in the South and Midwest. Wendy’s spicy nuggets performed well in 10 states. Missouri led in nugget consumption each meal, with an average of 15.4 nuggets, while Columbus, Ohio, had the highest city average of 16.5. Around 45% of respondents consumed nuggets roughly once a month.

In October, KFC also playfully launched a chicken war in an ad campaign promoting its new line of Original Recipe Tenders.

Chick-fil-A, however, is still a leader in the fast-food industry, with average revenues of $9.4 million at non-mall locations, surpassing McDonald’s and Portillo’s, which reported around $4 million and $9.1 million, respectively. The chain’s success is driven by high sales from a limited number of locations, effectively matching the growth of major competitors like Taco Bell and Raising Cane’s. Last year, Chick-fil-A opened its first elevated drive-thru in McDonough, Georgia.
