Borden files for bankruptcy in latest sign of dairy industry tumult

Borden, one of the largest dairy producers in the U.S., has filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection after the company was unable to secure a deal with creditors. The company blamed unfavorable consumption trends, rising costs and declining dairy prices as the factors that led to its action. Borden rival Dean Foods, the largest milk producer in the U.S., filed for bankruptcy in November.
