These Cinco de Mayo Restaurant Deals Aren’t Just Focused on Cerveza

April 30, 2025

Cinco de Mayo has become more than just a celebration of Mexican culture. It has become a foodie celebration for Americans. This year’s restaurant deals can’t be beat and are perfect for inflation-weary customers. Let’s look at what we know.

Cinco De Mayo 2025: Restaurant Deals

According to The Krazy Koupon Lady, there’s no shortage of restaurant deals available to customers on May 5, and the majority of them come from Mexican-themed restaurants. Some of the many deals available include:

  • El Pollo Loco: The company is offering two free chicken tacos with a purchase of $15 or more.
  • Moe’s Southwest Grill: The chain is offering a free side of queso with any entrée purchase on May 5. Since Cinco de Mayo lands on a Monday, Moe Rewards members can also snag the Moe Monday deal — a burrito or bowl plus chips and salsa for $7.99. As an added perk, the first 20 customers at participating locations that day will receive a free Moe’s T-shirt.
  • Guzman y Gomez: Based in Illinois, Guzman y Gomez is serving up $5 breakfast burritos (available until 10 a.m.), as well as $5 regular and Cali burritos, bowls, and $3 frozen margaritas on May 5. These deals are available for dine-in, drive-thru, and online/app orders.
  • Chipotle: From May 1 to 5, use the discount code DELIVER at checkout online or in-app to celebrate Cinco de Mayo with no delivery fee. Then, from May 3 to May 5, you can get free chips and queso blanco when you buy any regular-priced menu item and enter coupon code CINCO25. In addition, 50,000 Roblox users who complete Chipotle’s “Ingredient Quest” will receive a free burrito. The game begins at 3 p.m. PT on Monday, May 5. The first 50,000 players to identify Chipotle’s 53 Real Ingredients will receive a free entree offer.
  • Chevys Fresh Mex: The restaurant chain is rolling out multiple Cinco de Mayo celebrations. On May 3, enjoy an all-day happy hour with drinks starting at $4. On May 4, dig into their all-you-can-eat brunch. Then, on May 5, celebrate with $2 street tacos and other festive offers.
  • Taco Cabana: This year, Taco Cabana is giving two tacos (choose between carne asada, steak or chicken fajita, ground beef, and shredded chicken) and a margarita for $8.99. For $49.99, you can also get a dozen taco boxes (which feature three steak fajitas, three chicken fajitas, three ground beef tacos, and three shredded chicken tacos) as well as 1 gallon of Taco Cabana’s original lime margarita or the new Cholula Rita.

Mexican Culture

Cinco de Mayo has evolved into a cultural phenomenon in the United States. Originally a humble memorial of a Mexican battle triumph, it has evolved into a pan-cultural festival of food, drinks, and camaraderie.

For many of us, Cinco de Mayo is as wonderful a time as any to salute friends and celebrate the arrival of beautiful spring weather. Cinco de Mayo occurs on a Monday this year, but don’t let that dampen your spirits.

On May 5, 1862, a young Mexican general led an outnumbered force to an unexpected victory over the French at the Battle of Puebla. The triumph inspired years of local celebration, but fast forward more than 160 years, and many now mark the day by clinking Coronas on upscale patios — often with little understanding of its origins.

Largely overlooked in the U.S. until the 1960s, the date was embraced by Chicano activists as a symbol of Mexican American pride and resistance. It wasn’t long before brands recognized its commercial potential, turning Cinco de Mayo into a marketing moment — and, for many, just another excuse to party.

Cinco de Mayo is an important but primarily local celebration in Mexico’s central state of Puebla, the birthplace of many Mexican immigrants to Philadelphia, New Jersey, and New York. Thousands attend a noon parade to mark the occasion.
