Consumers continue to shift purchases from stores to online

Sales at non-store retailers in July, primarily online, increased 1.3 percent from June and 11.5 percent from the same month in 2016. Overall retail sales posted a gain of 0.6 percent in July compared to June, according to the Commerce Department.
