Asbury Puts Brake on Car Sales with Wal-Mart

By George Anderson

The Asbury Automotive Group announced yesterday it was ending its used car sales test at four Wal-Mart stores, according to a Reuters report.

Asbury cited lower than expected customer traffic as the reason behind its decision to end the one-year pilot program.

Moderator’s Comment: What are your thoughts on Asbury
Automotive’s decision to stop selling used cars in the parking lots of
Wal-Mart?

We’re surprised the used car test didn’t work
at Wal-Mart. We thought it was a great idea when it was first announced.

Perhaps, we’ll see Wal-Mart testing the concept with another
partner in the future. The company has previously said it has no intention of
getting into auto sales itself.
