FMI Bags Leadership Forum

By George Anderson

The Food Marketing Institute (FMI) will no longer be holding its IT Leadership Forum Conference, says the Executive Technology web site.

The association did not comment on why the conference was shelved. It is reported to be considering incorporating aspects of the Leadership Forum into February’s MarkeTechnics show.

Moderator’s Comment: Two Questions–

  1. What is your view on the current state of trade
    conferences for the retail industry?

  2. Which associations or other groups are doing the
best job of delivering value to show attendees?

FMI is not alone in the problems facing its conferences.
Many others are seeking to find ways to make themselves more responsive to the
needs of the marketplace. To this point, we’d give GMDC the highest marks for
making the adjustments necessary to serve the needs of its members and other
sponsors. [George
