Gotta Have Milk

A report in the Buffalo News says it’s cool to drink milk again. Kids and teens are increasing consumption of liquid milk for the first time in decades as processors step up with new flavored beverages (chocolate, strawberry, vanilla and mocha java) and the “Got Milk?” celebrity endorsement advertising campaign.

Annual milk consumption for kids between six and twelve stands at it highest level in 10-years according to numbers from the American Dairy Association & Dairy Council. Teenagers’ consumption is also up to a five year high.

Moderator’s Comment: Will adult consumers increase
their consumption of milk as those in the six to 17-year old brackets have done?

Flavored products that bear little taste similarities
to plain milk are the best shot here. That and, of course, the kids drinking
milk today will eventually become adults. Perhaps, they’ll bring their milk
consumption along with them. [George
