Bonnie Miller Rubin, a long-time reporter with the Chicago Times, took on a “retirement job” in a mall store and found it to be an eye-opening experience. Considering that retailers are relying on associates making (in her case) $9.50/hr., Ms. Rubin is nonplussed over how little respect and compensation they give to the employees responsible for making or breaking the customer experience.
