Mercedes-Benz Unveils Upgraded 2025 EQS Electric Sedan

April 15, 2024

Mercedes-Benz has announced significant upgrades to its EQS electric sedan for the 2025 model year. Despite being on the market for only three years, the luxury electric sedan has undergone improvements in range, features, and efficiency. Importantly, the price remains unchanged.

One of the improvements is the increase in battery capacity from 108.4 kWh to 118 kWh. This boost doesn’t come with a larger battery size but is achieved through revisions to the battery chemistry. Mercedes-Benz’s engineers have enhanced the cell packaging inside the battery, resulting in a 10% increase in energy storage. This upgrade has led to an 11% improvement in range for the EQS450 4Matic model on Europe’s WLTP test cycle, translating to an EPA-rated range of 370 miles for American owners.

The efficiency of the powertrain introduces a new standard heat pump. This system utilizes waste heat from various components like the inverter, e-motors, and battery to warm the interior, increasing overall efficiency by 5%. Furthermore, the front e-motor on the all-wheel-drive models can now be decoupled from the front axle under light loads, reducing mechanical drag and improving efficiency.

In response to feedback, Mercedes-Benz has redesigned the brake system. The self-actuating brake pedal has been replaced with a more conventional pedal that offers a sportier feel without any extraneous, sentient motion. Additionally, the brake system now automatically brushes the brake pads against the rotors to clean the discs, maintaining their effectiveness.

Other upgrades include cosmetic changes and comfort features. The 56-inch MBUX Hyperscreen, which spans from pillar to pillar across the dashboard, is now standard on all EQS models. For rear-seat passengers, the optional Rear Comfort Package Plus offers executive seats with various adjustments, neck and shoulder heating, and an angled footrest for enhanced comfort.

The 2025 Mercedes-Benz EQS will go on sale in the U.S. in the coming weeks, offering buyers a more efficient and feature-rich electric sedan without any increase in price.
