Office Depot posts better than expected profit

Office Depot reported that its net income rose 22 cents a share for the quarter ending April 1, up from eight cents a share for the same period in 2016. The company pointed to lower costs, largely resulting from store closures, as a major factor in its improved results. Sales at the company’s North American stores fell 10 percent during the quarter.
