Penney names former Joann Stores CEO to lead department store chain

Shares of J.C. Penney rose on the news that Jill Soltau, former CEO of Joann Stores, will join the company on Oct. 15 as its new chief executive and member of the retailer’s board of directors. Ms. Soltau replaces Marvin Ellison, who resigned in May to become CEO of Lowe’s.
